Clement Park has been described as a “home from home” where parents feel safe in the knowledge that their children are being cared for by dedicated staff. Our staff team is made up of both mature, experienced staff with many years’ experience within the early years sector as well as those who are currently undertaking formal training. All staff are committed to providing high quality learning opportunities for our children and promote our nursery’s aims and objectives.
We operate a key worker system and upon enrolment all children are assigned a key worker. Key workers track and plan all learning and development for their children and maintain all children’s learning journey profiles.
We have 3 separate age groups within our nursery. We have 0-2 years, 2-3 years and 3-5 years. Each age group has access to their own play rooms and space both indoors and out.
Baby Room (0-2 years)
In our 0-2 room we have a team of experienced staff that care for up to 12 children (staff ratio 1:3). This room is bright and welcoming and provides a suitable learning environment for our children. We have soft calm areas for our younger children to build on their gross motor skills, right through to a construction area for our older children to develop their fine motor skills.
A daily diary is completed to allow parents/carers an insight into their child’s day. Here at Clement Park we feel that parent bonds are paramount in ensuring that we deliver the best possible care.
Staff in our 0-2s maintain a home routine as much as possible. We offer an enclosed comfortable area for breast feeding mothers, or alternatively, staff are able to provide your child with breast milk should you wish.
Here at Clement Park we plan activities around our children’s individual and group needs. While no two days are the same, activities include: Free play, songs and stories, sensory play, outdoor garden activities, fun with music, water play and much more!
Toddler Room (2-3 years)
Our 2-3s room cares for up to 15 children (staff ratio 1:5). We have three adjoining areas for our children to explore. We have a quiet/calm area which allows children to slow down and enjoy sensory activities such as role play and story time, a play area where children lead the direction of play, and a messy activities area which includes water and sand play.
Staff work to the national Pre-Birth to Three curriculum and ensure that all activities are based on our children’s individual abilities. We understand that every child has their own learning pace and we are here to support their development.
Our daily routine includes garden time and fixed snack/lunch times, and while no two days are the same activities include: Painting and colouring, musical instruments – let’s make a band, play dough, water play, sand pit, story time, and visits from our mobile library.
Preschool Room (3-5 years)
In our 3-5s room we have a team of fully qualified staff who cater for up to 24 children (staff ration 1:8). Our open plan room has various spaces for our children to explore, including a role play area, construction zone, art/messy play, small world, writing area, IT area and a cosy reading area.
We spend dedicated time with our children, listening to them and understanding what they would like to learn, what they already know and provide the tools and support to help them learn through play. Children are encouraged to be as independent as possible and are given various opportunities throughout the day to do this.
Our 3-5s have direct access to our garden offering opportunities for free and exploratory play following the Curriculum for Excellence. Each child has a learning journal profile which maps their learning from the day they start nursery to the day they leave for school.
Being active is and should be a big part of life and is a core part of our nursery ethos. Here at Clement Park we make the most of our wonderful outdoor space by getting our children out every day.
Learning and Development
Our most recent Care Inspectorate report highlighted that children are thriving in nursery and noted our strength in encouraging independence in our children. We use Learning Together in Dundee (LTID), incorporating this in our approach across all areas to achieve excellence.
We are in partnership with Dundee council and can provide access to an educational psychologist should any child need this support. We also have fun with Soccer World who visit our nursery every Wednesday. Our children are able to express themselves through sport and thoroughly enjoy these visits.
